
Just a few months apart, Nofar Energy put its twin photovoltaic projects in Romania into operation. Their combined peak capacity is 315 MW.
Israel-based Nofar Energy said it has energized its Ghimpat (Ghimpați) solar park of 146 MW in peak capacity. The facility gradually began delivering electricity to the grid. Works began less than two years ago.
“We are currently in advanced stages of integrating a large-scale hashtag energy storage system alongside the PV facility to maximize energy utilization and project yield,” the company revealed. It has an 849 MW solar power pipeline in Romania, alongside 2.27 GWh in storage, according to the update.
The site is in the Iepurești area in Giurgiu county, near Bucharest. Notably, Nofar Energy’s nearby Iepurești solar power plant, of 169 MW, came online in June. It is also working on its Iepurești 2 photovoltaic project.

In December, the company began construction on Romania’s largest solar park, with plans to connect it to the grid this year. The Corbii Mari system, just west of the country’s capital city, is envisaged with 282 MW. The location is in Dâmbovița county.
In late 2023, when Nofar acquired the project, it estimated its annual output at 362 GWh, enough to meet the needs of around 160,000 households. The company is financing Corbii Mari from a EUR 192 million package that also covers two other large PV investments: Iepurești 2 and Slobozia. Total capacity is 531 MW,
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provided a EUR 64 million loan, with the remaining EUR 128 million mobilized from commercial lenders.
