The Studina solar power plant has entered regular operation, CWP Europe said. The facility of 174 MW in peak capacity is the largest in Romania, though there are already bigger ones under construction. The next step is to add battery storage.

CWP Europe said its Studina photovoltaic plant would generate 245 GWh per year, enough to power over 122,500 Romanian households. The location is in Olt county southwest of Bucharest. At 174 MW in nameplate capacity, Studina is the largest solar power plant in the country.

The facility won’t hold the top spot for long. Nofar Energy is building the 282 MW Corbii Mari solar park, while the investment division of Sweden-based Ingka Holding, the largest IKEA franchisee company, is building its 300 MW Butimanu PV system. It expects to complete it by April 2027.

Enery is preparing to begin construction works on a behemoth of 750 MW in peak capacity just outside of Bucharest. A few other giant projects are under development as well.

Studina receives building permit for co-located battery energy storage system

Studina has just entered commercial operation. It surpassed Econergy’s Rătești solar power plant of 155 MW as the largest one in the country.

A building permit for co-located battery storage system has also been obtained, with construction planned for the next step, CWP Europe said and pointed out that it built Studina in partnership with Renalfa.

Econergy’s Rătești solar power plant of 155 MW was the largest in Romania until Studina came online

“CWP’s construction team played a key role in the successful delivery of the Studina project, demonstrating strong coordination and disciplined execution throughout the most demanding phases of construction. Close collaboration with our EPC partners Solarpro and Eximprod ensured high-quality standards, timely delivery, and full compliance with EHS requirements, with zero accidents recorded over the course of the project,” said the company’s Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer Alex Sekulovic.

EPC is engineering, procurement and construction, and EHS stands for environmental, health and safety.

Solarpro is part of Austria-based Renalfa Solarpro Group. Siemens Energy was among the contractors. LONGi supplied its Hi-MO 7 bifacial solar panels.

“Enabled by our local teams, this project demonstrates our ability to acquire sites, form strong partnerships, add value through optimized permitting, and deliver real assets at scale in complex technical and regulatory environments,” said CWP Europe’s Executive Vice President Viktor Garbev.

China Huadian Corp. holding minority stake

Studina reportedly has a 134 MW grid connection. Chinese state-owned China Huadian Corp. is holding a minority stake in the project firm, according to recent updates in Romanian media.

Of note, CCE sold its Horia 2 solar power project in January to Renalfa Solarpro Group. The facility would have 293.3 MW in peak capacity and a 269.2 MW grid connection. The site in Arad county spans 349 hectares.
