The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of North Macedonia has launched a public call for grants for the use of natural gas in households. The country intends to use the fuel to decarbonize its energy sector and reduce air pollution.
The public call envisages subsidies for connecting to the natural gas network and purchasing a gas boiler. Households can receive financial support of up to MKD 30,000 (EUR 488), or up to 70% of the investment.
The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of North Macedonia continues to implement measures that provide direct financial support to citizens and encourage investments in more economical, efficient, and cleaner heating, according to the public call.
The deadline for submitting applications is October 31, 2026, and the total amount allocated for the subsidies is MKD 3 million (EUR 49,000).
The state is also using subsidies to increase energy efficiency
With this measure, the state not only enables families to reduce their investment costs but also helps to increase energy efficiency, promote cleaner energy, and improve the environment, according to the ministry.
Eligible for financial support are households that intend to connect their home to the natural gas distribution system during 2026, as well as households planning to purchase a natural gas boiler for a home connected to the system by January 1, 2026.
Only one application per household will be accepted, according to the public call.
The funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until the entire amount is used up.
Big plans for natural gas
North Macedonia has ambitious plans to expand the use of natural gas.
The construction of two gas pipelines is underway – interconnectors with Greece and Serbia – which are expected to increase import capacities, given that the country is currently supplied through a single route – from Bulgaria.
North Macedonia will also connect to the Vertical Gas Corridor.
At the same time, investments are being prepared in the distribution gas network and gas-fired power plants. The country has signed a memorandum of understanding with Turkey-based Kazancı Holding.
It is also working to secure liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States. The two countries have signed a memorandum of understanding on enhancing natural gas supply security.
