Shikun and Binui Energy put its second photovoltaic plant in Romania into commercial operation. The Șimleu Silvaniei facility, of 104 MW in peak capacity, is in the country’s northwest.
Just as it reached the ready-to-build milestone for its Deleni hybrid power plant in Romania, Shikun and Binui Energy was putting into regular operation a solar park of 104 MW in peak capacity in the country’s northwest, Profit.ro reported.
The facility in Șimleu Silvaniei, Sălaj county, lifted the Israel-based firm’s capacity in Romania to 175 MW. It said it is also working on projects in the power generation segment totaling 1.16 GW alongside 730 MWh of energy storage.
CJR Renewables was the contractor for both photovoltaic plants that Shikun and Binui owns in Romania. The first one, Satu Mare, is in the eponymous county, adjacent to Sălaj. Raiffeisen Group approved a EUR 49 million loan for Șimleu Silvaniei two years ago.
The company specializes in the development, construction, operation and maintenance of renewable energy facilities including solar thermal systems, pumped and battery storage and agrivoltaics. Its parent Shikun and Binui operates in the infrastructure and real estate sectors. It entered Romania two decades ago.
Of note, CJR Renewables, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor in the Iepurești PV plant, said a month ago that the facility has come online for testing. The capacity is 169 MW. The site is just southwest of the capital Bucharest, in Giurgiu county.
