Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, who serves as President-Designate of the United Nations’ COP31 climate summit, has said the COP31 Action Agenda calls for raising the share of electricity in final energy consumption to 35% by 2035 and promoting the responsible deployment of AI to advance clean technologies.
Presenting the agenda prepared for COP31, which takes place in Antalya, Turkey, from November 9 to 20, Kurum highlighted the need to strengthen the collective resolve to create a more liveable world and called on all parties to demonstrate this shared commitment.
“We aim to raise the share of electricity in final energy consumption to 35% by 2035. Under the COP31 Global Electrification Initiative, we shall accelerate electrification on a global scale,” Kurum stressed.
He added that it was paramount to promote the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) to advance clean technologies.

“While we must harness AI, particularly for sustainable innovations, the governance of both its substance and its operational processes remains critical,” he stressed.
Kurum said the objective of the COP31 Action Agenda was unequivocal – to translate shared commitments into concrete delivery – and invited all participants to serve as active partners in that process.
“Let us advance through dialogue, build strength through consensus, and deliver results through decisive action. Let us champion this cause together,” said Kurum.
The agenda also aims to halve the projected increase in municipal waste, reduce building energy-use intensity by at least 25%, and increase the global circular material use rate to at least 15% by 2035, among other targets, news agencies reported.
