Energoinvest, together with the educational institution New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) and US-based Universal Energetics, will explore the potential of coalbed methane in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Energoinvest agreed on this cooperation at the 20th International Fair Tešanj – BiH. The fair was the place where state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda BiH (EPBiH) signed a memorandum of understanding with Universal Energetics Inc.
Cooperation documents linking Energoinvest d.d. – Sarajevo, the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT), and Universal Energetics Inc. have been signed, according to BiH’s company.
Energoinvest said it has taken a new step in connecting domestic capacities with American academic, research, and corporate partners.
Ustamujić: BiH has energy potential which requires serious research
The cooperation is aimed at researching and evaluating the potential of coalbed methane in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the technical and economic feasibility of its utilization. The partners will also consider possibilities for integration with geothermal energy resources, Energoinvest explained.
This opens up space for knowledge exchange, the preparation of studies and technical documentation, and the development of potential energy projects, the company added.
Energoinvest CEO Mirza Ustamujić stated that BiH has energy potential that requires serious research, modern technology, and reliable partners.

“Through this cooperation, we are paving the way for new projects, investments, and professional opportunities in our country. Our goal is to put domestic resources and expertise at the service of long-term energy security, ensuring that BiH actively shapes its energy future,” Ustamujić pointed out.

The results of the research and feasibility assessments will show which projects meet the conditions for further development, Energoinvest added.
Regarding the memorandum between EPBiH and Universal Energetics, no further details were disclosed.
The memorandum lays a foundation for future cooperation in discovering, developing, and implementing new energy solutions, as well as opportunities to exchange best practices from the energy transition process in the State of New Mexico, which faced similar challenges to BiH, EPBiH stressed.
