Six companies have submitted expressions of interest for the construction of the Đerdap 3 pumped storage hydropower plant, Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović revealed.

The US Embassy in Serbia said in early June that the Government of Serbia has issued a public call to companies from the United States of America to express interest in participating in the implementation of the project Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant Đerdap 3.

The public call was published on the embassy’s website.

Now, Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović said six companies have applied to the public call. Evaluation is underway, she added.

The public call for US companies has been completed

The call for companies to express interest in participating in the Đerdap 3 project has just been completed, Đedović Handanović asserted.

An evaluation is underway to determine which applications meet the criteria, she stressed, as quoted by the Ministry of Mining and Energy.

The public call was completed on June 25, according to the ministry. The process is led by a working group of the Government of Serbia, in line with the agreement between the Serbian government and the government of the USA on strategic cooperation in the field of energy, the ministry added.

Meanwhile, the Romanian Government has approved the start of negotiations and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Serbia to facilitate information exchange on the proposed Đerdap 3 project.

Preparations for the start of construction of the Bistrica project have been accelerated

Speaking about plans for investing EUR 14.4 billion in the energy sector through the national plan for investments until 2030-2035, Đedović Handanović underscored that there are many things that need to be completed for the country to move forward, and that every day is important.

This generation must be aware of its responsibility, which is to secure the energy future for the next 50 to 60 years, just as the generations of the 1970s and 1980s did, Đedović Handanović added.

She pointed out that preparations for the start of construction of another pumped storage hydropower plant project – Bistrica – have been accelerated. The minister expects preparatory works to begin this year.
