Croatia-based Končar – Distribution and Special Transformers will deliver its transformers to Italian energy company Enel.

Rome-based Enel Global Services Srl, part of the Enel Group, has awarded a framework contract for the supply of distribution transformers to Končar – Distribution and Special Transformers (Končar-D&ST).

The total maximum value of the framework agreement exceeds EUR 28.5 million, with the buyer committing to utilize at least 50% of the contract value, Končar explained.

The agreement was signed with E-distribuzione SpA, Italy’s largest distribution system operator (DSO). Individual deliveries are expected to take place between January 2027 and December 2028, the update reads.

The contract includes the design, manufacturing, testing, and delivery of distribution transformers

The scope of work includes the design, manufacturing, testing, and delivery of distribution transformers, in compliance with all legal obligations, customer requirements, and Končar-D&ST standards.

“This contract represents a continuation of the company’s presence in the Italian market and confirms its position as one of the leading manufacturers of distribution transformers and a key actor in the modernization and expansion of Europe’s power infrastructure,” the Croatian company stressed.

E-distribuzione serves more than 31 million customers and manages 1.1 million kilometers of distribution network.

Končar-D&ST manufactures transformers rated at up to 160 MVA and 170 kV. The company exports the majority of its production to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Dynamic regional market for transformers

The global transformer market is highly dynamic, driven by strong demand. A similar trend is evident across Southeast Europe.

Slovenia-based power transformer manufacturer Kolektor Etra Ljubljana has opened a new 3,100-square-metre production hall at its subsidiary Kolektor Etra Belgrade, located in Barajevo near the Serbian capital Belgrade.

Bosnia and Herzegovina-based company Energoinvest, in partnership with Turkish firm Energoin, will supply distribution transformers to state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda BiH (EPBiH). The entire transformer production will be carried out in BiH.

In mid-July, SGB-SMIT and Comel signed an agreement under which the German group will acquire a majority stake in Serbia-based Comel Transformatori.
