Kolektor Etra has expanded its power transformer production capacity in Serbia with the opening of a new production hall in Barajevo. Kolektor Etra Belgrade manufactures power transformers rated up to 40 MVA and 145 kV, while the company plans to further increase production in the coming years.
Slovenia-based power transformer manufacturer Kolektor Etra Ljubljana has opened a new 3,100-square-metre production hall at its subsidiary Kolektor Etra Belgrade, located in Barajevo near the Serbian capital Belgrade.
The new production hall was officially opened by Simon Palfi, Director of Kolektor Etra Belgrade; Peter Novak, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kolektor Etra Ljubljana; Stojan Petrič, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kolektor Group; and Vladimir Tomić, Director of the Strategic Investments Sector at the Development Agency of Serbia (RAS).
Kolektor Etra Ljubljana manufactures power and generator transformers rated up to 500 MVA and 420 kV, while the Belgrade plant focuses on power transformers rated up to 40 MVA and 145 kV.
Production growth for demanding European markets
The global transformer market is experiencing strong demand, driven by the modernisation and expansion of power grids, electrification and the development of new power generation capacity.
Kolektor Etra Belgrade exports the majority of its production to Northern and Western European markets, where customers place high demands on product quality, reliability, energy losses and noise levels.

“With the new investment, we plan to double our sales by 2030. We aim to grow in markets that demand high-quality products and good service from suppliers. We can meet the needs of customers seeking transformers with low losses and low noise levels,” said Matjaž Nabernik, Director at Kolektor Etra Belgrade.
In line with market growth and the company’s development plans, Kolektor Etra Belgrade aims to increase its annual power transformer production to approximately 150 units by 2030.
New equipment and production capacity

The new production hall is equipped with two drying ovens – a hot-air circulation oven for drying windings and a vacuum drying oven for drying transformer active parts.
The facility is also equipped with a 70-tonne overhead bridge crane, while an air-cushion transport system enables heavy transformers to be moved easily and precisely within the production hall.
Once manufacturing is completed, the transformers undergo final testing in Kolektor Etra Belgrade’s own accredited high-voltage laboratory, which was opened in 2024.
The new production hall is part of the continued development of the Barajevo manufacturing site, with a new winding production facility planned as the next phase of expansion.
