The Government of Canton 10 in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) has granted a concession to Alpha Wind to build an 80 MW wind farm in Tomislavgrad.

Under the concession agreement, the Tomislavgrad-based firm will pay a one-time fee of around BAM 27,600 (EUR 14,100), while the annual concession fee is set at 1.9% of the total gross income generated from electricity production, according to a statement on the cantonal government’s website.

The concession agreement was signed by Miroslav Jaglica, the economy minister in the Government of Canton 10, and Domagoj Mandić, a representative of Alpha Wind.

The cantonal government decided to launch the procedure for awarding a concession for wind park Ljubuša in Tomislavgrad in late 2022. Investors interested in building the facility were required to bid for the contract, in a process managed by the cantonal economy ministry.

The cantonal government, however, did not reveal whether the procedure for the Ljubuša wind park, named after a local mountain, was being launched at the initiative of any company.

Tomislavgrad – a regional wind energy hub

By that time, the municipality of Tomislavgrad in the southwest of the FBiH had already become a regional hub for the production of electricity from wind. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s first wind farms, Mesihovina and Jelovača, were built on its territory.

The most recent agreement at the time was a 30-year concession for the Galečić wind farm, with an installed capacity of 29.9 MW. Around the same time, the Government of Canton 10 adopted a decision to initiate the process of awarding a concession for another wind farm in the municipality of Tomislavgrad – Orlokuk, with a planned capacity of 90 MW.

Wind farm projects Pakline 1 and Pakline 2, each with a capacity of 48 MW, were also being announced for this municipality, along with the Tušnica wind farm project, with a capacity of 72.6 MW.
