Serbia’s transmission system operator has invited interested project developers to apply for studies to be conducted for the connection of their planned facilities to the transmission grid. The study is one of the necessary steps for such a facility to be connected to the grid.
For large wind farm and solar park projects in Serbia, applications for conducting studies for the connection to the high-voltage system will not be processed until 2029, according to the latest amendments to the decree on conditions for delivery and supply of electricity.
Elektromreža Srbije (EMS) has now said that the new round for the preparation of connection studies begins on September 1.
Deadline for submitting applications is August 1
In line with the decree, the upcoming round for drafting connection studies is set to run from September 1 to December 31 of this year.
The deadline for submitting applications is August 1, EMS added.
Detailed information regarding the connection process is available on the EMS website under the customers page/connection to the transmission grid section.
EMS updated key documentation for connection studies
The transmission system operator (TSO) said that it has updated several documents, including the application form for the connection study contract, annexes A1-A8, and the grid connection study contract.
Investors must use these newly updated templates when submitting applications for the upcoming window, EMS stressed.
Procedure established under the decree adopted in 2023
The procedure for the preparation of connection studies for facilities is a relatively new mechanism introduced under the decree on conditions for delivery and supply of electricity adopted in October 2023.
The first round ran from December 20, 2023, to April 20, 2024. EMS conducts two rounds annually: from March 1 to June 30, and from September 1 to December 31.
In late April, EMS signed grid connection contracts for seven standalone battery storage projects.
One year earlier, Serbia’s TSO signed such contracts for 11 renewable power plants.
