The Croatian Energy Market Operator and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will cooperate on developing incentives for the integration of battery energy storage systems into the electricity system.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE) have signed a memorandum of understanding, HROTE said.
The document establishes a framework for cooperation by providing expert and technical support for the energy transition in Croatia and the implementation of modern solutions, in line with the European Union’s regulatory framework and best international practices.
“The memorandum confirms the strategic partnership in the further development of an efficient, flexible and sustainable energy market in Croatia and expands on the previously established cooperation within the Renewable Energy Market Accelerator (REMA) Programme: Development of a support scheme for stationary energy storage capacities,” HROTE explained.
The aim is to develop optimal incentive models for the integration of energy storage systems
The aim is to develop optimal incentive models for the integration of systems for storing energy from renewable sources into the electricity system.
The incentive models further guarantee the security of electricity supply, accelerate the development of renewables and enable access to ancillary services markets, while reducing the frequency of negative electricity price intervals on the market, HROTE added.
According to Miljan Ždrale, EBRD Director for Central Europe, the signing of the memorandum confirms the commitment of the bank and HROTE to accelerating the energy transition in Croatia and further strengthening a resilient, competitive and sustainable energy market.
Ždrale: The cooperation will focus on developing modern energy market solutions and strengthening system flexibility
“The cooperation will focus on developing modern energy market solutions and strengthening system flexibility, such as battery energy storage systems (BESS). It is important for us to support the institutions that play a key role in the energy transition and in creating a stable environment for green investments,” Ždrale asserted.
HROTE CEO Darjan Budimir pointed out that this type of inter-institutional strategic cooperation and support provides a positive impetus to the company’s efforts to offer innovative models for the further development of the incentives’ scheme for production of electricity from renewables and high-efficiency cogeneration in Croatia.
In line with trends and by anticipating the needs of participants in the energy market Budimir adeed.
