Helios Energy, an international renewable energy and battery storage contractor, is rapidly strengthening its position across the Balkans and Central Europe and aims to establish a long-term presence in key European energy markets. With its own engineering and construction resources, Helios delivers large-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage (BESS), and hybrid projects, positioning itself as a multi-technology engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partner for Europe’s energy transition.
Established in Romania in 2022, Helios has since expanded into Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, and the United Kingdom. Its Turkish sister company, Doğuhan Energy, which has been active in wind power construction since 1996, provides the technical and operational foundation behind Helios’ expansion across Europe.
Doğuhan operates exclusively in Turkey, while Helios is focused on regional and European markets, explains Mehmet Selim Çelik, Commercial Project Manager at Helios Energy.
While Romania remains one of its core markets, Helios intends to continue strengthening operations in the Balkans, accelerate growth in Italy, and progressively expand further into Central Europe and other strategic European markets, the company says.
Building a long-term position in Italy
Italy, in particular, is an important strategic growth market for Helios, where it plans to expand its presence significantly and build long-term relationships with developers, investors, and
other energy sector partners.
The Italian branch was established in 2024 and has started working on three solar projects this year, according to Çelik.
Helios is working on BESS projects in the UK together with a Romanian client
Earlier this year, Helios also launched construction on a wind power plant in Bulgaria and began work on BESS projects in the United Kingdom in cooperation with a Romanian client, Çelik said.
However, the company’s objective is not simply to enter new countries on a project-by-project basis. Rather, it seeks to establish a sustainable, long-term presence in key European markets.
Helios provides EPC, sub-EPC, and balance of plant services across the solar, wind, and BESS sectors. However, rather than focusing on a single technology or market, the company is developing into a multi-technology European energy contractor, capable of supporting increasingly complex renewable energy and BESS developments.
The track record includes over 3,000 MW of renewable energy capacity
The Group’s track record includes over 3,000 MW of installed capacity, about 1,000 wind turbines, and more than 85 renewable energy projects.

The completed renewable energy portfolio currently includes 2,316 MWm of wind, 717 MWp of solar, and 266 MWh of BESS capacity.
Focusing on energy storage projects
Energy storage is a particularly important component of the company’s project pipeline, with 1,048 MWh of BESS under execution, alongside 261.4 MWm of wind and 270.9 MWp of solar PV projects.
The company emphasizes that energy storage is expected to remain a key pillar of its future growth.
More than 1 GWh of energy storage capacity is currently under construction
Helios’ main BESS projects include Parau in Romania, with a capacity of 156 MWh, implemented in 2025 and 2026.
Additionally, Helios is working on the 260.78 MWh Rateşti and 338.64 MWh Parau 2 battery energy storage systems, both in Romania, as well as on the 150 MWh Minety Stonehill BESS in the United Kingdom.

In the solar segment, the biggest projects are located in Romania: Rateşti, with a capacity of 154 MWp, realized in 2022, and Parau 2, of 233.74 MWp, launched this year.
The Group’s biggest wind projects are in Turkey, while Helios is also working on several large facilities in Southeast Europe, including the 117.6 MW Tuluceşti and 44.8 MW Folteşti wind farms, both in Romania.
Combining EPC capabilities with hands-on construction experience
Helios’ key distinction from other contractors is its hands-on construction capability. The company does not operate solely as a project manager or subcontractor – it maintains its own engineering and construction resources, specialized machinery, and equipment, giving it greater direct control over quality and overall project delivery, according to the statement.

Helios offers comprehensive EPC and sub-EPC services, including the construction of substations, control buildings, and access roads, electrical works for substations and BESS, and the installation of steel mounting structures and solar modules.
Helios designs solar and wind power plants and substations, and offers maintenance and support
In addition to designing and building power generation facilities and batteries, the company also provides SCADA, CCTV surveillance, and communication systems, as well as preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance and support to solar and wind power plants.
Helios’ technical equipment includes its own fleet of specialized machinery, such as cranes, telehandlers, excavators, and ramming machines. Its capabilities also cover mechanical, electrical, and civil works testing, as well as operation and maintenance (O&M) tools and monitoring equipment such as thermal cameras and drones.
