Three hybrid projects, with a total capacity of 323 MW for generation and 250 MW for energy storage, have secured construction and connection permits in Romania.

Eurowind Energy Romania, subsidiary of Denmark-based company Eurowind Energy, has obtained construction permits, while Korkia, headquartered in Finland, received grid connection permits.

Korkia stressed it has secured grid connection permits (avize tehnice de racordare – ATR) for the Iron Gates hybrid portfolio. The ATRs for the projects in Caraș-Severin county in southwestern Romania were issued by the country’s transmission system operator (TSO) Transelectrica.

The portfolio consists of two hybrid projects with a combined solar generation capacity of 273 MW and a total battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity of 250 MW.

Roussos: Projects with advanced permitting status can stand out from the large pipeline of speculative applications

The permits are strengthening the projects’ route to ready-to-build status in 2027, Korkia claimed.

As Romania continues to modernise its grid connection framework and introduce stricter requirements for developers, high-quality projects with advanced permitting status can stand out from the large pipeline of speculative applications, Michael Roussos, Country Manager for Romania at Korkia, pointed out.

Korkia noted that with ATRs now secured for both the Alexandria and Iron Gates portfolios, it has advanced nearly 600 MW of solar and over 550 MW of co-located BESS to mature stages of development.

Eurowind Energy set a 1 GW portfolio target in Romania

Eurowind Energy Romania has received construction permits for the Siminoc hybrid wind-solar park in Constanța county, the firm said on LinkedIn. This is a significant step forward for one of our largest projects in Romania, the company added.

The project’s total capacity is 49.6 MW – 24.8 MW of wind plus 24.8 MW of solar. Planned annual output is approximately 120 GWh. Construction is set to begin in 2027 while commissioning is scheduled for 2028.

Siminoc will also create jobs during construction and permanent roles in operations, while contributing to community budgets through taxes and duties, according to the update.

Eurowind Energy set a 1 GW portfolio target in Romania. Currently it operates solar power plants and a wind farm with a total capacity of 124 MW.
