Over the past 20 years, the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) has grown from a gathering of dedicated stakeholders to the biggest annual event on the clean energy transition in Europe, with around 10,000 participants each year. The theme of this year’s event is A Clean, Secure and Competitive Energy Union.
It is still possible to register for the special edition of EUSEW, taking place between June 9 and 11, both onsite and online.
This year’s event will bring together all European energy commissioners since 2007: Andris Piebalgs, Günther Oettinger, Miguel Arias Cañete and Kadri Simson, alongside current European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen. They will offer their exclusive insights into how the continent’s priorities have evolved and what must come next amid a changing geopolitical landscape, said the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER).
Jørgensen will officially open the event at 9:00 CET. Other key speakers include member of European Parliament Elena Donazzan, Irish Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment and Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien – representing his country’s upcoming European Union presidency, Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Marko Primorac and Vice-Chair of DigitalEurope’s Executive Energy Council and Chief Executive Officer of Grid Software at Siemens, Sabine Erlinghagen.
T-MED initiative launch
In the afternoon on the first day, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica has a keynote speech scheduled, to officially launch the Trans-Mediterranean Renewable Energy and Clean-Tech Cooperation Initiative, T-MED. The project is vital for accelerating the development of renewable energy and clean tech cooperation between the EU and the Southern Mediterranean region, DG ENER explained.
The jubilee features former European energy commissioners Andris Piebalgs, Günther Oettinger, Miguel Arias Cañete and Kadri Simson
New Director-General for Energy Céline Gauer and Deputy Director-General Mechthild Wörsdörfer will on June 10 and 11, respectively, present the state-of-play and next steps in the area of EU energy policy.
Unlock Your Power! Your energy. Your rights. Your choice.
The European Sustainable Energy Week is providing the backdrop for a new communication campaign designed to empower citizens in the clean energy transition by raising awareness of their energy rights and encouraging active participation in the energy market, the update adds.
It will help citizens make informed energy choices, under the slogan Unlock Your Power! Your energy. Your rights. Your choice.
The campaign is focusing on practical, real-life situations such as understanding energy bills, consumer protection and participation in energy communities. The pilot initiative will focus on Czechia, Greece and Spain, with campaign content also available across the EU in English.
