Solvis is making 120,000 special solar panels for data centers operated by Google in California. The photovoltaic module producer from north Croatia expects the cooperation to continue after it delivers the order.

Together with experts from Google and a Swiss partner, Solvis has been developing special panels for the technology giant for more than two years now. The Croatian company received an order from Google, which intends to equip two data centers in California, Večernji list reported. Solvis, which has a solar module plant in Varaždin, will deliver 120,000 devices.

The producer exports 80% of its output. It said demand is two times higher than its annual capacity of 300 MW. It was founded in 2008, when there were few firms in the sector in Europe.

Director of Solvis Stjepan Talan noted Google intends to equip all its facilities around the world with solar panels and expressed optimism that the cooperation would continue.

Continuous investment in solar tech

The business employs 340 people and has ten models in the portfolio alongside other products. Solvis’s first solar panel had a surface of two square meters and a 200 W capacity, while its current equivalent has 500 W and it is ten times cheaper, Talan stressed and added constant technology upgrades are essential in the sector.

Talan: The European Green Deal will stimulate domestic solar panel production

Households usually install 4 kW to 6 kW on their roofs, which costs them EUR 5,300 to EUR 9,200, he revealed and asserted that the investment pays off in six to eight years.

In Talan’s view, the European Green Deal will stimulate domestic solar panel production. He claimed quality is better in Europe than in China and that the price is only a bit higher.

Solvis participates in USD 28 billion tender in India

Solvis launched the largest solar power plant project in Croatia last year. It is also supplying the panels for a 6.5 MW solar power plant in the island of Cres, which is already under construction and will be the country’s biggest when it is finished.

The company from Croatia’s north is participating in tender in India worth an estimated USD 28 billion for up to 47 million home power systems. State-controlled Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL) will order solar panels, batteries, LED lights and other equipment from the winner of the giant contest.
