The Clean Energy Investment Project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) said it joined the Group for Renewable Energy Sources within the Macedonian Energy Association in the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, and the International Finance Corporation’s Balkan Renewable Energy Program in the organization of the seventh Renewable Energy Stakeholders’ Forum in Skopje., head of the green energy group and the overall association, opened the event. Presentations were given on the new tender for awarding concessions for the use of waters to generate electricity from small hydropower plants at 48 locations, on improvements in land-related legislation, and on Binergija, the first project for a power plant on biomass in the country. Denko Rafajlovski spoke on market operator MEPSO’s experience in the purchase and supply of power from renewable sources. Other speakers came from the ministries of transport and communications, and environment and physical planning.

The forum attracted attention of around 50 participants from the public and private sector, as well as representatives from the donor funded projects and non-governmental organizations. The presentations and discussions, as it was the case with the previous forums, might lead to taking specific initiatives to improve the legal and regulatory framework for investments in this area. In that respect, the organizers prepared a document containing conclusions and recommendations and submitted it to relevant public authorities.
