The Energy Community Secretariat and Balkan Green Energy News signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on advancing transparency, sharing accurate and timely information, and raising public awareness about the regional clean energy transition.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Energy Community Secretariat Director Artur Lorkowski and Founder and Editor of Balkan Green Energy News and Managing Director of Belgrade Energy Forum (BEF) Branislava Jovičić.
The MoU outlines the framework for this collaboration, ensuring accurate, timely, and balanced reporting while upholding the media outlet’s independence.
Vienna-based Energy Community Secretariat is an international organization that fosters collaboration between the European Union and its neighbors with the overarching goal of establishing an integrated, pan-European energy market.
The Energy Community has nine contracting parties
The Energy Community has nine contracting parties: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo*, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Ukraine.
Its primary mission is to create a stable regulatory and market framework that attracts investments in power generation and energy networks.
Balkan Green Energy News is Southeast Europe’s leading energy news website, based in Belgrade. It is a bilingual and free-of-charge online platform covering sustainable energy and green economy news from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, and Turkey.
Lorkowski: Well-informed citizens are better equipped to actively shape the region’s energy future
It also organizes the premier B2B and B2G annual energy conference Belgrade Energy Forum – BEF, scheduled for May 11-12 this year.
Energy Community Secretariat Director Artur Lorkowski welcomed the MoU as an essential step toward increasing the visibility of energy reform progress and of the real-world impact of the energy transition on communities and economies across the Energy Community region.
“Through this partnership, we aim to strengthen the quality and accessibility of energy reporting, recognizing that well-informed citizens are better equipped to actively shape the region’s energy future,” he stressed.
Together with Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović, Lorkowski will open BEF 2026. This year the conference will host a record number of ministers from the Western Balkans.
Jovičić: We will inform, inspire, and drive the green energy transformation
According to Branislava Jovičić, Founder and Editor of Balkan Green Energy News and Managing Director of BEF, this collaboration will focus on exchanging expertise, amplifying best practices, and supporting evidence-based reporting that helps the Energy Community’s policymakers, investors, and citizens make informed decisions.
“We believe that independent, high-quality journalism and institutional expertise are both essential to accelerating the decarbonisation of the Western Balkans and ensuring a just, resilient energy future for all communities,” she pointed out.
She thanked the secretariat, Director Lorkowski and his team for their partnership and trust.
“We look forward to a productive, long-term relationship that contributes to a more sustainable and prosperous region. Together, we will inform, inspire, and drive the green energy transformation,” she added.
Balkan Green Energy News earlier arranged cooperation also with the energy ministries of North Macedonia, the Republic of Srpska – an entity of BiH – and Montenegro.
