Croatian company ENNA Solar has signed an agreement to acquire a solar power project with a battery energy storage system in Romania.

The Medgidia project comprises a solar power plant with a planned installed capacity of 166 MWp and a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 612 MWh.

Subject to obtaining the required regulatory approvals, the project will further expand ENNA Group’s renewable energy project portfolio in the Romanian market, ENNA Solar, a member of ENNA Group, said.

ENNA Solar has signed a share purchase agreement setting out the terms for the acquisition of a 100% equity stake in the Romanian special-purpose company CIC Grenn Energy Medgidia, which holds the rights to develop the photovoltaic plant and its associated BESS.

The project covers 204 hectares of land

Construction of the Medgidia project is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

The solar power plant is expected to enter commercial operation and begin supplying electricity to the grid in the first quarter of 2028, ENNA Group stressed.

Expected annual electricity generation amounts to 265,932 MWh.

The completion of the transaction and the transfer of the equity stake to ENNA Solar are subject to approval by the competent Romanian authority responsible for screening foreign direct investment (FDI), and approval from the relevant competition authorities in the applicable jurisdictions.

The project is located in the Medgidia area, in Romania’s Constanța county, and covers approximately 204 hectares of land.

Napast: The deal reaffirms our ambition to expand significantly into Central and Eastern European markets

“Medgidia represents a significant step forward in the continued development of ENNA Group’s energy portfolio and the strengthening of our presence in the sizable Romanian market. It also reaffirms our ambition to expand significantly into Central and Eastern European markets, where we see further investment opportunities,” Boštjan Napast, President of the Management Board of ENNA Group, pointed out.

He noted that the company is interested in renewable energy projects that are at an advanced stage of development or ready for construction.

First major investment outside of Croatia

The Medgidia acquisition builds on ENNA Group’s existing investments in Romania. ENNA Solar has already acquired the Mihăilești solar power project, with an installed capacity of 87.52 MWp, which is now at an advanced stage of construction.

The project also includes a 140 MWh BESS, with commercial operation expected to begin in April 2027.

Back in late December 2025 ENNA started the construction of this solar power plant. It is the company’s first major investment outside of Croatia.

It also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan.

The company operates in the sectors of energy and logistics.
