Enlight Renewable Energy and New Energy Solutions marked the beginning of operations of their Pupin wind park near Kovačica, north of Serbia’s capital Belgrade. The investment amounts to EUR 140 million and the facility has 95.5 MW.
The Kovačica wind power plant was commissioned in 2019. It consists of 38 wind generators totaling 104.5 MW. With the construction of the Pupin wind park of 16 turbines, or 95.5 MW, a complex of almost twice the capacity was created.
The project extends the partnership between Israel-based Enlight Renewable Energy and domestic company New Energy Solutions. The investment, worth EUR 140 million, enables the production of up to 220 GWh of electricity per year, which is enough to supply more than 40,000 households in Serbia, according to the update from today’s inauguration.
The companies expect wind power plant Pupin to generate 220 GWh per year
The project was financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Erste Group and Erste Bank Serbia. Nordex was selected for the equipment, and a consortium of domestic companies led by WD Concord West and Elektrozapad carried out the construction.
The Pupin wind park is named after Mihajlo Pupin, one of the most prominent Serbian scientists, who was born in Idvor in the municipality of Kovačica. The location is just north of Belgrade.
