EVN Macedonia elektrani put into operation a photovoltaic plant in Probištip of 10.9 MW. It more than doubled the company’s renewables generation capacity in North Macedonia.

Probištip seems to be getting an outsized role in the solar power sector on a national level. The Management Board of EVN Macedonia inaugurated a solar power plant near the village of Bučište in the small municipality.

The new facility has a peak capacity 10.9 MW. With it, the company boosted its renewable electricity generation portfolio to 20 MW, also in peak terms.

The connection capacity is usually some 20% lower, depending on inverter power and due to losses in the conversion from direct to alternating current and factors including the geographical position.

Probištip PV system is made of three units

Annual output is estimated at 16 GWh, equivalent to the consumption of four thousand households in North Macedonia, the firm added.

The new solar park is connected to the distribution network through six substations

EVN Macedonia elektrani’s Probištip photovoltaic park consists of three units: 450 kW, 950 kW and 9.5 MW. It has 20,148 bifacial panels of 535 W each and 42 inverters of 250 kW apiece. The system is connected to the distribution network through six substations.

The solar power plant is located in the country’s northeast. The subsidiary of Austria-based EVN aims to have 60 MW in peak capacity in renewables by 2030 in North Macedonia.

EVN has more solar power investments underway

It noted that it recently built a photovoltaic unit of 4 MW in peak terms in Štip, south of Probištip. EVN Macedonia said investments near the cities of Kumanovo and Prilep would add another 10 MW and 3.3 MW, respectively, to its peak PV capacity.

In 2020 the firm built North Macedonia’s first unit with bifacial panels, benefitting from a program for premiums for solar power on private land.

EVN Home is the country’s universal electricity supplier. Its five-year contract is expiring at the end of June.
