The Municipality of Nova Crnja is negotiating with Chinese investors on the construction of a 60 MW wind farm, said the Mayor of Nova Crnja Municipality Pera Milankov.

He said that the Municipality has 1,000 hectares for the construction of wind, solar or biogas power plants.

“Thanks to this fact, our municipality is unique in Serbia. And that is not all, we have prepared all relevant planning documentation for this area,” Zrenjaninski portal has reported quoting Milankov.

The Mayor said that the two-year survey, conducted by the Municipality, confirmed the best conditions in Serbia for wind energy utilization.

“We are negotiating with Chinese investors willing to build a 60 MW wind farm. Nevertheless, it is important that implementation of our plan for the alternative electricity generation has already started. We have the first investor, who is building a biogas power plant, with a capacity of  1 MW,” Milankov said.

The investor of this power plant purchased three hectares from the Municipality.

Serbia has an obligation to boost power output from renewable sources to 27% of total consumption by 2020. The country is now getting almost 23% of power from renewable energy sources. There are projects under construction to build 500 MW of green power.

A month ago Vetroelektrane Balkana d.o.o. secured a credit line worth EUR 215 million for its 158.4 MW Čibuk 1 wind farm, most of which is planned to be built in the Kovin municipality, less than fifty kilometers northeast of the Serbian capital Belgrade.

Israeli company Enlight Renewable Energies will build one of the largest wind farms in Serbia with a capacity of 104.5 MW in Kovačica, in the northern province of Vojvodina. The project is worth EUR 189 million, and the wind farm is expected to be operational by the end of 2018.
