Second Parliamentary Forum for Energy Policy was held in the Serbian Assembly on October 14 in the presence of European and German Parliament representatives, who presented the best practices from Germany in the sustainable energy sector. The second meeting in a raw, organized in the form of public hearing, took place only a week after Forum’s founding meeting.
MP Dr Aleksandra Tomić, Chairperson of the Forum, opened the session by reminding Members of the Parliament, guests and participants that Serbia has adopted the National Sustainable Development Strategy in 2008, and the National Environmental Approximation Strategy in 2011.
She said that, despite complex economical situation in Serbia, Parliament has to update and harmonize its strategy goals with 17 new sustainable development goals of United nations (UN) 2030 Agenda.
In order to introduce MPs and other members with the topic, Tomić spoke about the Forum activities in the previous parliament session and “Energy Development Strategy of the Republic of Serbia for the period by 2025 with projections by 2030”.
“Also, Serbian Parliament works together with the Energy Community Secretariat, and twice a year participates at the Parliamentary plenum together with all other members.”
Axel Dittmann, German ambassador in Serbia, said that Germany, in cooperation with GIZ and German Development bank KfW, is ready to support Serbia in sustainable energy sector development.
“Environment is focus of our partnership with Serbia for waste water treatments, energy efficiency improvements and hydro power. Even before the Paris conference Serbia had announced it would reduce greenhouse emissions by 3% which is a big challenge for Serbia and a chance to reduce its dependence on energy imports, as well as its budget costs.”, he added.
Zoran Predić, State secretary at the Ministry of mining and energy said that the ministry has done a lot in recent years to introduce new legislation in this field.
