Nano Energies has passed the certification audit for aFRR power reserve services conducted by Croatia’s transmission system operator HOPS.
With its certificate, Nano Energies said it became the first independent aggregator for secondary regulation services in Croatia.
Nano Energies demonstrated its system successfully aggregates a range of smaller units, while meeting the requirements of the country’s TSO Hrvatski Operator Prijenosnog Sustava (HOPS) for aFRR (automatic frequency restoration reserve), a crucial component of frequency secondary regulation in the power system.
“This is a significant milestone for the company and the Croatian energy system as it further strengthens the stability and reliability of the power grid,” said Nano Energies’ Country Manager for Croatia Dominik Maričević.
Nano Energies operates in the Czech Republic, Croatia, and Romania
Czech-owned company Nano Energies Hrvatska, part of DES Holding, became the first licensed independent aggregator in the Croatian market in August 2022.
DES Holding, part of the Nano Energies group, was acquired by Second Foundation in January.
According to the company, it collaborates daily with customers in the Czech Republic, Croatia, and Romania to maintain the balance between electricity production and consumption in the transmission system, thereby eliminating supply interruptions.
The group operates virtual power plants in the three countries.
The company remotely manages customer energy devices
The company remotely manages customer energy devices and provides ancillary services by reacting in real time to deviations in the grid, in line with the needs of the transmission system.
Nano Energies said its customers earn additional revenue by being ready to help ensure the stability of the transmission system.
Automatic frequency restoration reserve is a type of reserve aimed at maintaining the stability and reliability of the power grid. Unlike manual frequency restoration reserve (mFRR), which dispatchers can activate manually, aFRR is automatically activated following disturbances in the grid caused by discrepancies between generation and consumption in the power system.
