Nominations for this year’s edition of the EU Sustainable Energy Awards can be submitted online until February 4, 2019. The awards are part of the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), organized by the European Commission (Directorate General for Energy and EASME), which will take place from June 17 to June 21.
EUSEW is the biggest event dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe, and this year’s tagline is ‘shaping Europe’s energy future’.
During the 2019 EUSEW, five of the year’s most outstanding projects will be named winners of the EUSEW Awards (apply here).
The 2019 award categories are:
- Engagement – For activities that inspire and motivate citizens to make their energy habits more sustainable;
- Leadership – For activities that are contributing to the long-term objectives of the EU, whilst providing significant socio-economic benefits;
- Innovation – For EU-funded activities that demonstrate the sustainable energy transition in original and innovative ways; and
- Youth – For activities carried out by, or targeting, people under 30.
According to Guidelines for Awards, the organization running the activities, projects, or actions must be based in the European Union and the activities, projects, actions must be carried out within the EU.
Twelve shortlisted projects will be invited to the awards ceremony in Brussels during the EUSEW Policy Conference and have the chance to compete for not one, but two awards – a category Award and Citizens’ Award.
Balkan Green Energy News, as the EUSEW’s media partner, presented 3 out of 12 finalists in 2018 – Wisegrid, 300 schools energy retrofit program, and North-West Croatia Regional Energy Agency (REGEA).
Last year’s winners were Wisegrid, Bio.Energy.Parc.Saerbeck, Peace_Alps and Czech Sustainable Houses. Winners in 2017 were Greek Tilos project, Home Energy Saving Kit, Europe-wide CELSIUS project, and SINBIO, while in 2016 EcoGrid EU, Pokupsko Municipality, and Green Brewery Göss received the awards.
The invitation to submit applications for 2019 Policy Conference sessions is open until January 28, while calls for Networking Village activities and local sustainable energy events, Energy Days, will be launched in January 2019.
