Croatian Power Exchange (CROPEX) and Croatian transmission system operator (HOPS) together with Slovenian power exchange and transmission system operator completed the EU MRC day-ahead market (DAM) coupling project on the Croatian-Slovenian border.

According to CROPEX’ press release, for the market coupling session, transmission system operators (TSOs) agreed on an implicit allocation of the daily capacity.

The first market coupling session resulted in 8,283 MWh volume with the highest hourly volume of 619 MW in 20 hours, CROPEX said.

In 2017, HOPS and CROPEX joined the regional Italian Borders Working Table project (IBTW), launching preparatory procedures for the Croatian market coupling on the Croatian-Slovenian border.

Silvio Brkić, Director of CROPEX, said that successful realization of the DAM coupling project with the European coupled market represents a historical day for CROPEX and provides significant support for the further development of the Croatian electricity market.

“CROPEX will continue with the same enthusiasm with the realization of day-ahead market coupling projects with neighboring markets, including the coupling of its intra-day market with neighboring EU intra-day markets planned for 2019,” Brkić added.
