The Satu Mare photovoltaic plant will likely start production in the first quarter, Shikun and Binui Energy said. The company energized a transformer at the site, in northwest Romania.
After years of accumulation of projects in Romania, the solar power boom is in full swing. Companies are obtaining loans, beginning construction and commissioning utility-scale photovoltaic facilities every few days. Israel-based Shikun and Binui Energy announced that it has energized a transformer within its Satu Mare project.
The site spanning 85 hectares is in the country’s northeast. The 71 MW project is the company’s first big investment in Europe.
Commissioning possible ahead of schedule
The Satu Mare solar park, located in the county of the same name, will start delivering electricity as early as next quarter, Shikun and Binui Energy said. Earlier it planned to commission it in the second quarter of 2025.
The contractor is CJR Renewables. Late last year it signed the turnkey deal including design, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering, equipment procurement and construction.
Shikun and Binui Energy secured a EUR 40.5 million loan in March from Raiffeisen Bank International and its Romanian subsidiary.
The company said it has a 1.5 GW pipeline of solar and wind power projects in the country.
Of note, Electrica is preparing to launch construction of Satu Mare 2 and 3 in the same area.
Shikun and Binui Energy also invests big in wind power in Romania
Shikun and Binui Energy earlier secured a EUR 49 million loan for Șimleu Silvaniei. The location for the 101 MW photovoltaic endeavor is in the nearby Salaj county.
It also got a transmission network connection approval for its proposed Gold-Wind wind farm of 376 MW near Constanța. Target completion date is by the end of 2028.
According to news reports from a year ago, the company also had wind and solar power projects in Iași county.
It specializes in the development, construction, operation and maintenance of renewable energy facilities including solar thermal systems, pumped and battery storage and agrivoltaics. Its parent company Shikun and Binui operates in the infrastructure and real estate sectors.
