Serbia’s natural gas transmission system operator, Transportgas Srbija, has joined the Regional Booking Platform (RBP) for gas, enabling its transmission capacity at cross-border points to be allocated through transparent and harmonized European procedures. The country is expected to begin using the platform in July.
“Serbia has taken a significant step toward a more open, integrated, and competitive natural gas market, contributing to the broader objective of building a regional gas market fully aligned with European standards,” the Energy Community Secretariat said in a press release.
Joining RBP supports third-party access and will allow market participants to book capacity for gas flows between Serbia and neighboring countries under the capacity allocation mechanism (CAM) rules. The move is expected to enhance security of supply across Southeast and Eastern Europe, the Secretariat said.
The allocation of capacities via RBP is harmonized through the European Union’s network code on capacity allocation mechanisms (CAM NC).
Transportgas Srbija will allocate the capacities of the interconnection points Kiskundorozsma-Horgoš on the Hungarian border and Kalotina-Dimitrovgrad on the Bulgarian border, as well as the Serbian virtual interconnection point Gastrans–Transportgas Srbija on RBP, according to an update on RBP’s website.
Serbia will offer capacities at interconnection points with Hungary and Bulgaria
RBP also said that the precise schedule of the capacity allocation procedures and the offered capacity products would be announced at a later time. It also invited those who are not yet members of RBP but are interested in using Transportgas Srbija’s network to register through RBP.
According to the Energy Community Secretariat, Serbia is expected to begin using RBP in July. Capacity allocation procedures will be conducted largely in line with the annual auction calendar of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) and standard network code products.
Although some standard capacity products will be introduced at a later stage, this marks an important step toward full CAM NC implementation and greater predictability and transparency for market participants across the region, it added.
The Energy Community Secretariat helped Transportgas Srbija join RBP
Throughout the process of joining the platform, Transportgas Srbija received technical and regulatory assistance from the Energy Community Secretariat in achieving compliance with the Energy Community and EU regulatory frameworks.
The Secretariat stressed that it would continue to support Serbia’s gas market reforms and its ongoing alignment with EU standards.
