The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) opened a tender worth EUR 68.200, exclusive of VAT, for a project to measure carbon dioxide emissions from geothermal areas in Turkey.

The main objective is to measure and quantify diffuse CO2 emissions through soil from selected, currently unexploited areas. At least three field measurements will be carried out and analysed.

The results will provide a frame of reference for comparison with CO2 emissions from existing geothermal power plants in other areas in similar geological setting.

The results will also be used in the future as a baseline observation to quantify the effects of fluid production on diffuse degassing when the fields have been taken into production.

The project is set to begin in February 2017. and run for six months, while the deadline for submission of Expressions of interest is January 20, 2017.

EBRD wishes to engage an independent consultant to compile survey data using the geostatistical methods such as the Graphical Statistical Approach (GSA) procedure and sequential Gaussian simulations (sGs) in order to constrain the total CO2 flux from each study area.

The consultant has to be a firm or a group of firms with experience and a strong track record in international project advisory works in the geothermal field, particularly in performing geochemical measurements and soil diffuse CO2 measurements.

The project is funded by the European Union through the EU-EBRD Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Programme for Turkey.
