The EU4CAET Grant Facility launched its first call for proposals, aiming to support community-led sustainable energy projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is co-financed by the EU and Germany and implemented with the technical and financial support of GIZ. The beneficiaries can get up to EUR 99,999 per project, or up to EUR 170,000 if they developed it with support from the grant facility’s technical assistance unit.
Municipalities and cities in BiH can apply for non-repayable funding by March 30 for renewable energy, energy efficiency and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. It is the first call for proposals under the EU4CAET Grant Facility. It includes support for partnerships involving municipal authorities and energy communities, citizens, the private sector, or civil society organizations.
The grant facility is part of the EU4CAET project, co-financed by the European Union and Germany, and implemented with the technical and financial support of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The financing window of the facility is managed by the Centre for Development and Support (CRP), based in the city of Tuzla.
EU4CAET stands for EU for Collective Action for Energy Transition.
Grants to support emissions reduction, air quality improvement
Eligible projects increase renewable energy production and energy efficiency in public infrastructure and contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and improvement of air quality.
The proposed endeavors need to strengthen the institutional and technical capacities of local communities, and encourage the participation of citizens and the private sector in the energy transition. The call targets projects that are fully ready for implementation, with completed technical documentation and all required permits in place.
The sum amounts to 50% to 80% of costs
The EU4CAET Grant Facility provides non-repayable funds for solar power, biomass heating, heat pumps, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and energy-efficient public lighting.
Grants cover the costs of procurement, installation, and commissioning of equipment, as well as associated construction and installation works directly linked to the investment.
The sum amounts to 50% to 80% of costs. Maximum grant for a project is EUR 99,999, or EUR 170,000 for the ones developed with support from the grant facility’s technical assistance unit.
Deadline for questions is March 24
The documentation including guidelines and forms is available for download in English and the local language at CRP’s website. Questions can be submitted by email to eu4caet-grants@crp.org.ba until March 24.
Assessment criteria include community integration, replication potential, job creation, gender inclusion and the applicant’s proposed contribution.
Within EU4CAET, 43 project ideas from 28 local authorities for the first renewable energy communities in BiH were pre-selected a month ago to receive assistance.
