New Chief Executive Officer of Gen energija Nada Drobne Popović will replace Dejan Paravan on November 1. Among other activities, she will be responsible for the project for Slovenia’s second nuclear power plant.

The Supervisory Board of Slovenian state-owned GEN energija promoted Chief Financial Officer Nada Drobne Popović to the position of CEO to replace Dejan Paravan. She is starting her new role on November 1.

Drobne Popović has extensive experience in various leadership roles, the company pointed out. From 2019 to 2023, she led the Management Board of Petrol.

Before that, GEN energija’s new chief executive was the head of finance of steelmaker Sij Acroni for two years and a member of the Management Board of Slovenian Sovereign Holding (SSH or, in Slovenian, SDH), owner of GEN energija, for three years. Drobne Popović became CFO in July of last year.

JEK 2 nuclear power project is valued at up to EUR 16 billion

GEN energija holds the Slovenian half of the Krško nuclear power plant (NEK or, in Slovenian, JEK), and owns hydropower plant operators Savske elektrarne Ljubljana (SEL) and Hidroelektrarne na Spodnji Savi (HESS), and the Brestanica gas-fired power plant.

GEN-I, which Prime Minister Robert Golob co-founded and was its CEO until 2021, is also part of GEN Group.

At the helm of GEN energija, Drobne Popović will be responsible for the NEK 2 (JEK 2) project, for another nuclear power plant. The investment is valued at between EUR 9 billion and EUR 16 billion.

A referendum was scheduled about the proposal, but the National Assembly canceled the vote a year ago.

GEN Group is key pillar of low-carbon electricity supply in Slovenia

With her managerial and professional experience and knowledge, Drobne Popović will significantly contribute to the further development and success of the company and GEN Group (Skupina GEN), which remains a key pillar of the reliability of low-carbon electricity supply in Slovenia and the driver of the development of the JEK2 strategic project, the supervisory board added.

Chief Operating Officer Bruno Glaser is remaining in his seat as the only other member of the management board. It won’t be expanded for the time being, the update reveals.

Paravan opted last month for an early exit. The supervisory board confirmed the amicable termination of his term of office and thanked him for his successful management of the company and GEN Group.
