Renalfa IPP has acquired a solar power project for 258 MW in connection capacity in Romania’s Teleorman county. It plans to integrate 1 GWh of battery storage with the facility.

The start of the Teleorman project’s commercial operation is scheduled for 2027. It will contribute to Romania’s decarbonization goals and energy security, according to Renalfa IPP, a Vienna-based developer and independent power producer.

The company said on LinkedIn that the purchase aligns with its strategic commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions across Central and Eastern Europe. The site is in the country’s south.

Renalfa IPP revealed that it plans to integrate a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 1,000 MWh with the photovoltaic facility. It will enhance grid stability, optimize renewable energy utilization, and support the transition to a resilient and sustainable energy system, the company said.

Renalfa IPP was established as a joint venture between Renalfa Solarpro Group and French infrastructure fund management company RGreen Invest.

The clean energy and e-mobility firm focuses on renewable energy generation. It is also active in Hungary, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Poland, and North Macedonia.

Renalfa IPP commissioned its first utility-scale BESS in June, in Bulgaria. The installation with 25 MW in operating power and a capacity of 55 MWh in the town of Razlog is colocated with a 33 MW photovoltaic plant.
