Kavadarci Mayor Mitko Jančev signed off on 56 applications for rooftop photovoltaic installations. Total capacity of the approved projects and the ones being processed is almost 18 MW. The city in the central part of North Macedonia is becoming an example of a successful energy transition.

Kavadarci Mayor Mitko Jančev said he has approved 56 applications for the installation of photovoltaic panels on buildings. Legal entities submitted 52 requests and the rest are from individuals. Nine more applications are being processed, of which seven from legal entities.

The municipality received nine requests from legal entities for the installation of solar power plants on construction land in the municipality of Kavadarci and two other requests are being analyzed. Total planned capacity for photovoltaic plants for which building permits have been issued or the permitting process is underway is 16.1 MW.

Approved applications and the ones being processed have a combined capacity of 17.7 MW.

Rooftop PV units on municipal buildings to pay off in one year

The said figures are a clear indicator that Kavadarci is quickly and reliably becoming a green city. According to the local authority, households and the industry are increasingly switching to solar energy for electricity production.

Additionally, the municipality has set up photovoltaic facilities on ten public buildings.

Rooftop solar power units were installed on ten local institutions and schools

Mayor Mitko Jančev emphasized the investment would pay off in one year and that the beneficiaries would achieve savings as they have so far purchased electricity on the free market, at high prices.

Kavadarci is among the first local authorities that began installing photovoltaic panels on municipal buildings. Total installed power is 192 KW. The last two solar power units were installed on the roofs of elementary schools.

The local authority said it would launch more such projects for municipal institutions.

The municipality also approved building permits for solar power plants Resava, Ljubaš 1, 2, and 3, and Garnikovo.

The territory of Kavadarci extends over the middle part of the Povardarje area in the central part of the country. It covers a significant area of the Tikveš valley, known for wine production.
