Germany’s development agency GIZ will cover half of the costs for the purchase and installation of rooftop solar power panels for three households in the city of Kragujevac in Serbia. The memorandum of cooperation was signed by GIZ representatives, the beneficiaries and equipment suppliers.
Subsidies for the installation of rooftop solar power panels for three households in Kragujevac in central Serbia will be provided within the project “Promotion of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in Serbia,” implemented by GIZ.
Cofinancing was approved for homeowners that met the conditions prescribed in the public call of the Ministry of Mining and Energy and the local authority but couldn’t get the funds as the quota was filled due to a high number of applicants, GIZ said.
The memorandum of cooperation was signed in the City of Kragujevac’s offices by the GIZ’s representatives, the beneficiaries, and equipment suppliers, who will also carry out installation works.
The memorandum confirms that the project would cover 50% of the total costs for installing the solar panels, GIZ said.

“These pilot projects will result in the development of standardized technical and financial models for the use of solar photovoltaic systems in the prosumer model,” said Aleksandar Popović from GIZ, who presented the project.
Popović pointed out that the examples of good practice and a guide for households that GIZ would prepare could serve as guidelines for everyone interested in becoming a prosumer in the field of solar power.
GIZ expects the application and development of the prosumer model in Serbia to strengthen in the same way it has been growing in the world in recent years.
The Ministry of Mining and Energy has provided subsidies of 50% for citizens to install rooftop solar panels. Citizens who decide to become prosumers can benefit from the independence from an unstable market and volatile electricity prices.
Prosumers can also benefit through savings and contributing to reducing emissions and protecting the environment.
An additional benefit is that with the subsidy, the period of repayment of the total investment in solar panels is reduced by half, GIZ points out.
Within the project, GIZ is implementing activities to improve the legislative, institutional and technical framework for greater use of sustainable energy technologies in Serbia.
