The deadline for applications and nominations for the European Sustainable Energy Awards – EUSEW Awards 2022 has been extended until April 28. The organizers added a special focus on the REPowerEU plan for achieving energy independence from Russia and accelerating the clean energy transition.

Take advantage of the extra time to perfect your application or nominate an inspiring person or project pushing forward Europe’s energy transition, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) said as it extended the deadline for the European Sustainable Energy AwardsEUSEW Awards 2022 by two weeks, until April 28.

The award ceremony is scheduled for September 26, the beginning of the five-day European Sustainable Energy Week or EUSEW. The finalists are set to be picked by mid-June and the public vote opens on August 23, the organizers said.

Anyone interested can apply directly or nominate another person or project that has a remarkable impact on the energy transition in one of four categories: Innovation, Local Energy Action, Woman in Energy, and Young Energy Trailblazer.

Rising to challenge during, beyond European Year of Youth

Now more than ever, Europe needs ambitious and concrete solutions to invest in renewables and accelerate the clean energy transition, according to the call, in which a special focus on the RePowerEU plan was added. The European Union is launching emergency measures to lower its dependence on Russian fossil fuels and accelerate the deployment of renewables and energy efficiency improvements.

“We want to hear about innovative EU-funded projects, impactful local initiatives, women leading the change and young people rising to the challenge during and beyond the European Year of Youth,” CINEA said. The agency runs EUSEW in close cooperation with the EU’s Directorate-General for Energy.

The European Sustainable Energy Week was launched in 2007 by the European Commission. This year it will be organized in a hybrid format, so participants and speakers are able to participate onsite and online. The event will also comprise a high-level policy conference, the third European Youth Energy Day and opportunities for meetings, exhibition stands and other networking activities.
