The Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry has announced a public call for grants to help citizens in single-family houses and apartment buildings improve energy efficiency.

The plan is to spend EUR 70 million over the 2021-2027 period, and the first public call, scheduled for March 9, will be worth EUR 30 million.

Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry Natasa Pilides said that an additional EUR 7-8 million a year will be given as incentives under the special RES & EE fund for energy upgrades and the use of renewable energy sources.

The energy renovation plan is intended for citizens, not businesses

The energy renovation plan is intended for citizens, homeowners with permanent residence in Cyprus, and also for apartment buildings, but all owners of these buildings must send a joint application. Owners of these buildings must not be businesses.

Eligible measures under the plan include consulting services, thermal insulation of the house envelope, windows replacement, the installation of shading systems as well as the installation and/or replacement of technical systems (such as solar, photovoltaic, air conditioners, storage batteries, etc.), according to the ministry’s website.

A grant cannot exceed 60% of the total investment in energy renovation or 80% for vulnerable consumers.

“We’ve seen that renovations and upgrades in Cyprus are moving forward well as part of the movement towards going green. The ministry will do our best to speed up the processing of applications,” Pilides said.
