In the first half of 2020, solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants received the record share of Slovenia’s incentives for electricity produced from renewable energy sources and high-efficiency cogeneration (combined heat and power – CHP) since 2013.

Solar PV got EUR 35.2 million out of EUR 67.4 million, or 52.2% all incentives paid by the state budget in H1 2020. From 2013 the percentage varied from 43 to 48 in the first six months of the year. On the other hand the amount paid for solar PV in H1 is not the highest in the last eight years, given that it totaled EUR 37 million in the first half of 2017.

But, compared to H1 2019 when solar PV received EUR 31.9 million this is increase.

Solar power plants  generated the same amount of electricity as in H1 2017

Solar PV systems together produced 147 GWh in the first half of the 2020, equal to the amount of electricity generated in H1 2017.

The solar energy results correlate with the solar boom in Slovenia in 2019 when 2,496 new solar PV systems were installed, with a total capacity of 31.2 MW, of which a vast majority is for self-consumption. It is worth mentioning that PV systems for self-consumption are not covered by the state support scheme.

The second largest beneficiary of the support scheme in H1 2020 was fossil fuel-fired CHP

The second largest beneficiary of the scheme in H1 2020 was fossil fuel-fired CHP, which received EUR 13 million, or 19.3%, for 197 GWh, while the third place was occupied by biomass power plants, with EUR 10.5 million for 73 GWh.
