The first Greek wind turbine factory, operated by Eunice Wind, has launched production in the town of Mandra in the west of Attica, some 30 km from Athens, Greek news agency ANA-MP reported. Eunice Wind is part of Eunice Energy Group.
The factory manufactures EW-16 THETIS, the small wind turbine with a rated power of 50 kW, with the capacity of 50 wind turbines a year and possibility to boost production by some 30%.
The international markets and economies are sending the message that the era of centralized power production is over, said Giorgos Pechlivanoglou, head of Eunice Wind.
One can no longer talk about a producer and a simple consumer but has to start thinking about partnerships between producers, consumers, and the creation of the prosumer, Pechlivanoglou said, ANA-MP reported.
Designed in Germany, EW-16 THETIS is an advanced and reliable three-bladed horizontal-axis Small Wind Turbine (SWT), upwind orientated, certified under the IEC 61400-2 standard, according to Eunice Energy Group’s website.
The tubular steel tower is available for hub heights of 22 and 30 meters. The 30-meter version consists of two segments; while the shorter tower has only one segment, the group says on its website.
Eunice Energy Group is part of the TILOS project, the innovative hybrid, renewable energy-based battery station and smart microgrid project.
The island Tilos switched from oil-based electricity from neighboring Kos via an undersea cable that is vulnerable to faults to wind and solar power by installing a single wind turbine, a small scale photovoltaic park and an integrated battery storage system. The project secures up to 75% of the island energy needs.
Eunice Energy Group signed a contract for selling electricity with the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO).
The TILOS project was a double winner of the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) Awards 2017. It was the first ever winner of the Energy Islands Award and the winner of the Citizens’ Award.
