Gorazd Pfeifer is the new president of the Management Board of the Krško nuclear power plant (NEK) in Slovenia. He has replaced long-time chief Stane Rožman.

As president of the Management Board, Gorazd Pfeifer will be in charge of NEK together with Saša Medaković, a member of the board, in line with bilateral agreements between Croatia and Slovenia, and their power utilities Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) and GEN Energija, respectively.

The Krško NPP is located near the border with Croatia.

HEP and GEN Energija each own 50% of NEK. The Slovenian company appoints the board president and HEP is responsible for installing a member of the body. They both represent NEK, independently, and the decisions are reached by consensus.

Stane Rožman, the long-time chief, retired after an exceptional professional career, NEK said. From 1988 to 2003 Rožman was the director, and then the head of the board.

Of note, Slovenia approved the extension of the Krško NPP’s operation in January by 20 years, until 2043, and preparations are underway for the construction of the second unit, which could be online in 2035 at the earliest.

Biography

Gorazd Pfeifer holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Ljubljana. He joined the Krško NPP in 2000.

He began his career as a reactor operator and advanced first to a senior reactor operator and then to shift supervisor.

He was a nuclear simulator instructor in the meantime and trained two teams of operators. Pfeifer was also the interdepartmental coordinator at NEK. In 2017, he took over the production department, including the teams for operation security and stability, as well as overhaul activities.

The firm’s new boss participates in programs of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO). In addition, Pfeifer was educated and gained experience at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) in the United States. He is a member of the Managers’ Association of Slovenia.
