The Government of Montenegro is investing more than EUR 4.5 million in energy efficiency measures in four educational and six health institutions.

The energy efficiency measures include the placement of thermal insulation on facades and thermal and hydro insulation on roofs, replacement of facade windows, adaptation of existing heating systems or installation of new ones, replacement of the boiler room equipment as well as installation of thermostatic and balancing valves and lamps replacement.

The funds will be invested through two programs, the Energy Efficiency Programme in Public Buildings (EEPPB) and Montenegro Energy Efficiency Programme (MEEP), according to the press release published by the Ministry of Economy.

EUR 2.7 million will be invested through the first and second phase of the EEPPB for the energy efficiency measures in four educational institutions including the Grammar school “Slobodan Škerović” in Podgorica. The program has been implemented since 2012 by the Ministry of Economy in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and the Property Administration.

During 2017, more than EUR 1.8 million will be invested in the energy efficiency measures of health institutions: EUR 1.1 million for the replacement of windows in the main building of the Clinical Center of Montenegro  and EUR 0,7 million for the construction works of health centres in Nikšić, Kolašin, Andrijevica, Petnjica as well as the healthcare station Murino.

The adaptation of thermo-technical installations with electrical wiring was finished in these health centres last year. The works carried out through the MEEP have been implemented since 2009. The programme is implemented by the Ministry of Economy in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.

As the Ministry stated the renovated buildings will be completely energy efficient after the works are done, with the living conditions significantly improved.

The EEPPB program is financed from the loan of German development bank KfW in the amount of EUR 31.5 million and a grant of around EUR 4.7 million, while the MEEP is financed from International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) loan in the amount of EUR 11.5 million.
