In its second auction for guarantees of origin, Greece intends to offer certificates for solar and wind power as well as for the output from wind farms on non-interconnected islands as the third lot.

Greece’s Renewable Energy Sources Operator and Guarantees of Origin (DAPEEP) issued a call to the country’s second auction for guarantees of origin (GOs) of renewable electricity. Like last time, it is offering three products: for energy produced by onshore photovoltaic and wind facilities within the interconnected system and by wind power plants in the non-interconnected system – non-interconnected islands in particular.

Every GO is for 1 MWh. Suppliers use them to certify the source of their electricity, for buyers.

DAPEEP is making 1.05 million GOs available in the forthcoming round, translating to 1.05 TWh. It covers the first quarter of this year. The body scheduled the auction for October 16.

Photovoltaics will amount to 782,626 GOs, compared to 257,021 for wind power plants and 9,683 for wind power in the noninterconnected part of the electricity system.

In the first one, weighted average prices came in at EUR 0.37, EUR 0.41 and EUR 0.38, respectively. The auction on June 26 was for the period October-December 2023. GOs for the entire 890 GWh package were bought.

Companies already in the registry will receive an invitation, and they need to apply by October 7. Others need to register and the deadline expires today.

A secondary GO market is planned to be established at the Hellenic Energy Exchange (HenEx). Income from the sale of GOs is allocated to Greece’s renewable energy account ELAPE. It is operated by DAPEEP, which is responsible for payments to producers.
