Trading on Serbian power exchange SEEPEX increased by 46% in 2023 while the average day-ahead base price was 2.6 times lower than in the previous year, the Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia (AERS) said in its annual report.

The total amount of electricity traded on the SEEPEX day-ahead market (DAM) in 2023 was 4,680,359 MWh, AERS’s annual report reads.

In 2023, the highest monthly trade volume was achieved in November, with 451,086 MWh, and the daily maximum was recorded on March 14, with 22,781 MWh.

The weakest month was January, with 311,913 MWh, but the amount was 34% higher than the lowest monthly result of 2022. The highest hourly price, EUR 318.3 per MWh, was reached on September 2 at 8 pm.

SEEPEX had 45 registered participants in the day-ahead market in 2023

The average base price in 2023 was EUR 103 per MWh or 2.6 times lower year over year as the market cooled after the energy crisis. At EUR 272.9, the 2022 level was 240% higher than the year before.

SEEPEX had 45 registered participants in the day-ahead market in 2023 or seventeen more than in the previous year, while 33 actively engaged in trade, which is a rise in the number of participants by ten on an annual basis, the report adds.

AERS said the trade volume and the growth in the number of registered and active participants in the market increase the liquidity of the power exchange and help set the reference wholesale price in Serbia and the region.

In July 2023, the intraday market on SEEPEX kicked off. By the end of the year, the total trade volume was 3,960.2 MWh. The highest monthly trade volume was achieved in November, at 5,592.2 MWh, AERS said.
