The Renocally project is hosting a webinar on June 6 at 10:00-11:30 am to discuss and compare energy efficiency policies and renovation initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans. The event will highlight opportunities and challenges for public authorities, featuring practical case studies from Slovakia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Renocally project is part of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). It is the overarching goal of the EUKI to foster climate cooperation within the European Union in order to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

Buildings Performance Institute Europe is implementing the project. Renocally supports municipalities and policymakers in Bulgaria, Romania, and Slovakia in decarbonizing their building stock in a cost-efficient, people-centric way by implementing effective building renovation policies aligned with EU policy.

The project will bring together a panel of experts from Slovakia and Serbia on June 6 from 10:00 to 11:30 am to present practical cases from their countries. You can register here.

Public authorities in CEE and the Western Balkans are crucial to decarbonizing buildings

Public authorities in Central and Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans are crucial to decarbonizing buildings. However, they face common challenges, including rising upfront costs, limited budgets, and the need for technical assistance in building renovations.

The webinar will explore the implications of the newly adopted Energy Performance of Buildings Directive EPBD and other relevant policy documents for public authorities. It will include an overview of Serbia’s national energy efficiency policy.

The attendees will learn about practical solutions employed by public authorities to increase renovation rates. It includes renovation programs for public buildings in Serbia, financial mechanisms developed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a renovation passport for a public building in Slovakia.

Rutger Broer, project manager at Buildings Performance Institute Europe, will conduct the webinar and moderate the discussion between:

  1. Jana Bendžalová, Energy Expert at ENBEE (Environment & Building Energy Efficiency) Slovakia;
  2. Antonela Solujić, Senior Adviser for energy efficiency in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia;
  3. Tanja Cvjetković, Technical Advisor at Serbia’s Ministry of Energy and Mining.
