A support programme worth more than EUR 100 million has been drafted for investments in less exploited renewable resources, like biomass, biogas and geothermal, portal Energynomics.ro reported. Romanian Ministry of European Fund said the maximum planned grant per project is EUR 15 million.

The funds will be provided from the European Regional Development Fund and cofinanced by the state through the budget of the ministry. Over EUR 20,1 million is set for next year, for 2018 the sum is EUR 30,1 million, and for 2019 even more – EUR 40,2 million, while EUR 10 million is allocated for 2020.

State aid is not allowed to top 45% of investments in energy generation facilities, according to the scheme. The government’s document adds information from the national strategy for 2007-2020 that renewables account for the production of 6.55 million tonnes of oil equivalent and that the unused technical potential is approximately another eight million, mostly from biomass and biogas.
