Italian company Exergy International will supply an 8 MW geothermal binary plant to Emirler Enerji in Turkey.

The contract is for the second unit of the Emirler 1 geothermal power plant in Sarayköy, in the Denizli region in the country’s southwest.

“We are honoured to include Emirler Enerji among our partners, with whom we want to create long-term synergies and provide services that can enhance their renewable energy capacity,” General Manager Luca Pozzoni said. He noted that the Italian company has a manufacturing and service base in Turkey, adding it would remain a reference market.

Milan-based Exergy said it has the second-largest geothermal binary cycle fleet worldwide. It is part of the Chinese TICA Group, a provider of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) sector.

The Italian firm said last year it was reaching 500 MW in capacity when Hez Enerji, also headquartered in Turkey, hired it to design, engineer and supply a 24 MW system. The agreement was for two radial outflow turbines (ROTs), an air-cooled condensing system and a generator, all produced locally. The facility was scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2024.

Exergy specializes in organic Rankine cycle (ORC) power plants.

At the end of 2023, geothermal power plants in Turkey had a combined share of just under 1.7 GW, according to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The level was almost unchanged from one year before.
