Participants in the second Solar Camp for Young Leaders in Serbia, in Sremski Karlovci, are getting acquainted with renewable energy production.

The solar camp was organized within the projects ‘Promotion of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in Serbia’ and ‘Prospects for Young People in Rural Areas in Serbia’. As part of the German development cooperation, they are implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Mining and Energy and Ministry of Tourism and Youth.

People between 18 and 30 years old living in rural areas have the opportunity to develop project planning and implementation skills in environmental protection and renewables, with a focus on solar energy. The goal is to enable them to apply the knowledge in their communities.

The participants are getting to know renewable electricity production in theory and practice at the Eco Center Radulovački in Sremski Karlovci in Serbia’s northern Vojvodina province. Pilot projects for teams are also underway with assistance from mentors.

The five-day camp includes a course in writing and managing projects and involving youth in volunteer actions that contribute to living in a healthier and cleaner environment, the announcement reads.

Participation is free. After the training, the participants can get funding for volunteer actions on a local level. The first Solar Camp for Young Leaders was held in October in the same premises.
