Retired US Army General Wesley Clark has met with Kosovo* Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Prishtina to discuss, according to reports, energy projects, particularly solar power.

Clark, who served as NATO Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during the Kosovo* conflict and the bombardment of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1999, today works as a consultant in the private sector.

He is chairman and CEO of strategic consulting firm Wesley K. Clark & Associates, chairman and founder of investment bank Enverra, Inc. and chairman of Energy Security Partners, LLC, as well as numerous corporate boards including BNK Petroleum and Leagold Mining, according to the consulting firm’s website.

Clark is active in the energy sector, including oil and gas, biofuels, electric power and batteries, according to the Wesley K. Clark & Associates website.

Kurti and Clark discussed foreign investments in new energy capacities

The Kosovo* prime minister’s office said in a press release that the talks covered the diversification of energy resources and the government’s commitment to attracting investors that will develop new energy capacities, which would ensure the security of supply.

Kosovo’s Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli, who also attended the meeting, spoke about finalizing the energy strategy for the period 2022-2031, aimed at ensuring a fair energy transition, according to the press release.

Kosovo* plans a pilot auction for solar power by the end of 2022

Rizvanolli said in March that Kosovo’s pilot auction for solar power, planned to be held by the end of the year, would be for 50 MW in total capacity.

Meanwhile, government-controlled Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) is working on a 100 MW solar power plant, which it intends to build at what is now an ash dump for the Kosova A coal-fired thermal power plant.

In February, Jaha Solar and Electra signed an agreement to build a 3 MW solar power plant for ProCredit Bank Kosovo.
