Power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) has published contract templates for supply with net metering (for households) and supply with net billing (for companies), essentially completing the implementation of the legal framework for the introduction of prosumers in Serbia.

Citizens and companies now have a legal framework in place that allows them to install solar panels to produce electricity for self-consumption, supported by state subsidies. Their bills for consumed energy will be lower, and environmental pollution reduced.

The legal framework consists of the laws on renewables and energy, adopted in April 2021, and the Decree on prosumers, adopted in August last year.

With solar panels, citizens and companies can reduce bills and environmental pollution

Elektroprivreda Srbije has published instructions on its website, the application form for getting a contract, as well as models of contracts for supply with net metering (for households) and supply with net billing (for companies).

After the installation of a solar power plant, when technical preparations for connecting it to the distribution grid are complete and a two-way meter is installed, future prosumers submit to EPS a request for concluding a supply contract with net metering for households and housing communities or a supply contract with net billing for businesses and other consumers. The requests are submitted by email to kp@eps.rs.

After concluding a contract, EPS notifies distribution system operator Elektrodistribucija Srbije (EDS) that the contract has been signed. EDS must connect the consumer power plant to the grid within five days and register it in the register of prosumers.

Of note, EDS recently published an instruction on how households can become prosumers.
