EDP Renewables is making progress with its proposed wind power plant of up to 70 MW in Galați while it is purchasing firms that develop wind and solar parks.

Portugal-based EDP Renewables (EDPR) has completed the environmental impact documentation for the Negrilești wind farm project with a maximum of 70 MW in Romania’s east, Profit.ro reported. The study of the spatial plan includes the 33 kV to 110 kV substations, and underground power connection, access roads and site organization at the location in Galați county.

The facility should consist of ten turbines with a capacity of 5 MW to 7 MW each. The company, which has an operational portfolio of 521 MW in wind and solar systems in the Eastern European country, is working on acquisitions of local firms developing such projects, the report adds. The wind farm is envisaged to span 40 hectares.

The Portugal-based renewables giant acquired a 56 MW wind farm project last summer

EDP Renewables or EDP Renováveis is 75% owned by EDP – Energias de Portugal. The parent’s biggest shareholder is China Three Gorges, with 19%. BlackRock holds 3.7% and 7.4%, respectively, in the two firms. It holds the second-biggest share in both of them.

EDPR struck deals to buy several renewable energy projects last year in Romania. In the summer, it took over Energopark, owned by several legal entities registered in Cyprus. In its portfolio is a project dating back to 2010, for the construction of a 56 MW wind farm in Bacau county, the article adds.

Later it struck a deal to purchase Solar Phoenix, which has produced documentation for a 49 MW photovoltaic park in Bazoșu Nou in Timiș county in the west of Romania. EDP Renewables also agreed to acquire International Solar Energy, which is developing solar power projects of a 135 MW in total in Bazoșu Nou, Moșnița Nouă, Tormac and Dragșina in the same area.

EDPR merged its five subsidiaries in the country last year

The utility currently operates wind power plants Făcăieni, Cobadin, Cernavoda, Peştera, Albești, Vulcani and Sarichioi, and solar parks Cujmir, Băilești, Burila Mică, Dăbuleni, Grojdibodu and Vânju Mare. It recently merged the five subsidiaries that owned them.

Last year EDPR said it would invest an additional EUR 19 billion by 2025 to install another 20 GW in renewable energy capacity.
