China’s construction company Norinco has completed the largest wind farm in Croatia. The Senj wind farm is the most significant Chinese investment in Croatia after constructing the Pag island bridge.

The wind farm with an installed capacity of 156 MW is located near the city of Senj on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. The investment in the power plant was earlier estimated at EUR 180 million, but according to portal Nacional.hr, it has reached EUR 230 million. The construction started three years ago.

Wind farm Senj comprises 39 wind turbines. The last one was built on October 30. According to the local media, the first four turbines have been put in trial operation, while the rest will be put online over the next six months.

With the completion of the hoisting work of wind turbines, the construction of the Senj wind power project has been completed after two years of efforts by all members of the project team, according to Norinco’s press release.

The wind farm spans 65 square kilometers.

The project includes 39 stand-alone 4 MW wind turbines, their auxiliary equipment and supporting towers, a new booster station, and the construction and reconstruction of transmission lines, Norinco said.

The estimated annual production of the wind farm is about 538 GWh.

According to Nacional.hr, Norinco is also interested in installing a solar power plant near the city of Zadar.

Officially, the 58 MW Korlat wind farm is currently the largest in the country, given that 142 MW Krš-Pađene is in trial operation.
